Thank you…
Thank you. I am filled with gratitude for your support.
When the Governor interviewed me for the appointment to Secretary of State, I stated that I’d only serve as Secretary, and run for re-election, as a nonpartisan.
I wasn’t selected. But I wasn’t disheartened.
We launched a principled campaign, free from the powerful partisan institutions that polarize our politics. From every corner of the state – across the political spectrum – people responded, giving us the resources to run an extraordinary, highly-competitive campaign.
Together, we raised nearly $370,000 – more than any other nonpartisan or unaffiliated candidate for statewide office in history. Over 94% of our campaign donations came from individuals. I’m honored that my disclaimer read, “Paid for by Friends for Julie Anderson (not a political party).”
We were outspent 2-1 by my opponent, who received over a quarter of a million dollars from his political party, a similar amount from special interests, and over $160,000 from outside PAC support.
Our message was louder than money. In the end, with over 3.1 million ballots returned, only 116,595 votes separated me from my opponent.
We ran a principled, honest campaign centered on the people of Washington, focused on creating credibility in government through effective administration and innovation. I’m proud of that, and I hope you are too.
I’ve wrapped up my three terms as Pierce County Auditor. What does 2023 and beyond look like? I don’t yet know. Before I plot a new course, I’ll reflect. I want to take stock of the lessons from this campaign, hold the gratitude I owe to each of you, and reflect on what I can do as a citizen to promote healthy self-governance and inspire unity.
Thank you,
Julie Anderson
